We have always enjoyed traveling the world and traveling for us is the people we meet along the way and the unexpected surprises that so enriches your life. Now we have combined that sense of adventure with the finding of beautiful objects to offer in our shop.
Kurt was a designer and builder who had been building houses one at a time for the past three decades. His love of architecture, combined with travel around the world has influenced his artistic designs. Our own home, ‘StoneHouse’, was built with containers of building materials brought from India; stone and rosewood antique pillars, black limestone floors, recycled rosewood for doors and for the heart of the house, a hand carved granite Rumford fireplace. Kurt’s love of gardening and landscape design is evident throughout the estate.
Lydia is a professional musician with six albums to her name. She’s been involved with music her entire life; studying, documenting and performing Folk Music, and composing and recording her own songs. She ran her own music label for fifteen years and toured with her band in the U.S. and Canada.
Lydia comments, “We can’t help but love old and romantic things. Many years ago, Kurt began collecting old maps while I was stashing linens into chests and drawers. I was growing lavender and composing music inspired by my Appalachian and Celtic roots. We took our daughters to Europe to supplement their educations, and found that we learned so much more about everything ourselves.
Our love of adventure and exploration has led us to the great sites of Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa and India. So after building our own home, we decided to do something that we have secretly always wanted to do…
Now we have our own shop on our 10 acre estate. Each morning we walk through the woods, fields and groves, open the shop door, light some incense and welcome the day.”
What we offer in our shop hopefully will bring into your home that sense of exotic lands and cultures. Should you find yourself in the beautiful Pacific NW, please stop in and share a cup of chai or a glass of wine with us. There’s nothing we like better then sharing each others experiences.
