Made of solid wood, they were turned on a foot powered lath and finished with a red lacquer applied over the surface. Some have Pali scrip and elephant stamps. These wooden trays were used for temple offerings and during the ‘waking bowl’ ceremony when in the morning the monks filed thru the village receiving hand outs of cooked rice and other foods. Most are in good condition with an aged patina, but some have existing cracks and a few have cracks that have been repaired.
