About Us

Who We Are

Kurt and Lydia Scherer have always enjoyed traveling the world, meeting people. Now we have combined that sense of adventure with the search for beautiful things to offer in our shop.

Kurt is a designer and builder who has been building houses one at a time for the past three decades. His love of architecture, combined with travel around the world has influenced his artistic designs. Our own home, ‘StoneHouse’, was built with containers of building materials brought from India; stone and rosewood antique pillars, black limestone floors, recycled rosewood for doors and for the heart of the house, a hand carved granite Rumford fireplace. Kurt’s love of gardening and landscape design is evident throughout the estate.

Lydia is a professional musician with six albums to her name. She’s been involved with music her entire life; studying, documenting and performing Folk Music, and composing and recording her own songs. She ran her own music label for fifteen years and toured with her band in the U.S. and Canada.

Lydia comments, “We can’t help but love old and romantic things. Many years ago, Kurt began collecting old maps while I was stashing linens into chests and drawers. I was growing lavender and composing music inspired by my Appalachian and Celtic roots. We took our daughters to Europe to supplement their educations, and found that we learned so much more about everything ourselves.

Our love of adventure and exploration led us to the great sites of Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Egypt and India. So after building our own home, we decided to do something that we have secretly always wanted to do…

Now we have our own shop on our 10 acre estate. Each morning we walk through the woods, fields and groves, open the shop door, light some incense and welcome the day.”

We hope that you will visit our online shop again and perchance should you find yourself in the Pacific NW, please stop in and share a cup of chai with us.

Kurt & Lydia Scherer

Located in the pastoral countryside between Seattle and Vancouver, BC.,  Bellingham, WA. is growing tourist destination in it’s own right.  With the Salish Sea, the San Juan Islands to the West and Mt. Baker and the North Cascades National Park just to the East, Bellingham  has always attracted artists and the outdoor enthusiast. From whale watching to gallery walks, to old growth forest hikes, Whatcom County is a great destination. We invite you to take a walk around our gardens, ponds, fields and woods, and bring a picnic along if you like. We celebrate the seasons here with occasional outdoor dinners and concerts.
